Why You Shouldn’t Miss ‘Night, Mother’

If your barkada is “IN” for a theater play that presents complex emotions, “nakakapanindig balahibo” na storyline and tackles issues about taboo in mental health, depression and how a dysfunctional family lives in an urban modern life. You guys should definitely reserve seats on this amazing adaptation of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) of Pulitzer’s prize winning drama “Night, Mother” by Marsha Norman.  PETA is actually the first professional theater company to produce this dark comedy in the Philippines.

Here are few reasons why you and your barkada shouldn’t miss this:

Si Euge ay nagbabalik! Eugene Domingo is finally returning to the theater scene after five years of hiatus to portray the role of Jessie in “Night, Mother” whose character is a divorced woman who is suffering from epilepsy who tells her mother of her plan to commit suicide.

There are only two casts. This is quite intriguing because in theater plays we usually see a lot of characters, but in this, there are only two; Jessie which is played by Eugene Domingo and Thelma which is going to be played by veteran actress Sherry Lara.  The 90-minute play promised to keep the audience glued to their seats as Thelma convinces her daughter Jessie that life is still worth living. This is actually a one-act conversation between the two.

Intense ang scenes! Imagine just the two of them throwing lines to each other but they can still shake the audience’s emotions even with the sensitive topics and dark humor in the story.  The play mentions topics that are timely and relevant to us like EJK, Martial Law and even the Mental Health Act.

They already started last Feb 2 but you and your friends can still catch “Night, Mother” at the PETA Phinma Theater till March 18 and feel like a neighbor watching a family inside their home.
